Venetian Inspiration – The Dolfin Collection

14 September 2018

The first Sunday of September was a memorable day for Venice, which once again this year returned to live the ancient splendours that celebrate the greatness of the Serenissima with the Historical Regatta.

Defined as the main event in the annual “Voga alla Veneta” rowing calendar, this unique sport has been practiced in the lagoon for thousands of years.
More famous and fascinating is however the spectacular event that blends history and folklore: the magnificent and sumptuous historical procession that precedes the races.

This unique and special parade features scores of 16th-century style boats, including the bissone which is used only on special occasions. All the rowers and participants are dressed in period costume and represent the Doge, Caterina Cornaro and the highest ranking Venetian officials.
Accompanied by the applause of Venetians and tourists, the boats parade in a procession that goes from St Mark’s basin to the Constitution Bridge, before returning to the starting point: the “Machina”, a temporary floating stage built in front of the Ca’ Foscari palazzo.

This faithful historical reconstruction is followed by the four “Voga alla Veneta” races: a regatta for women, one for caorline or transportation boats, one for young rowers and the most famous, the regatta for two-oared gandolni champions.

At Salvadori, we are inspired each day by our city and its experiences.
The Dolfin collection is inspired by the soft and delicate flow of boats passing through the canals of the lagoon. The original and precious jewellery pieces of this line stand out for their particular and soft shape, which takes the Venetian “Iron Prow-Head” and turns it into a ancient emblem of pure beauty and design, giving a new look to one of the most emblematic symbols of Venetian boats.

The entire collection is created as an embrace between two different eras, two worlds that come together and unite in white and yellow gold, merging into a single jewellery piece embellished with individually selected diamonds set by hand that tells the story of Venice, its history and timeless beauty, which seems to have stopped here in the infinite moment where beauty meets the classic and innovative style of Salvadori.
