The 4 Cs of diamonds: Cut

23 November 2020

The last but also the most important parameter that is part of the 4C classification examines the cut.

Term not to be confused with the form!
The most common shape is the brilliant cut, which with 57 facets allows the light to reflect completely giving the stone the maximum brilliance, followed by the oval, teardrop, marquise and heart cut.
The cut instead determines how well a stone has been cut.
If the proportions are right, the return of light will be excellent.

If the parameters of purity, color and weight are inevitably influenced by nature, the cut of the diamond depends solely on the skill of its cutter.

It is important to remember that: Perfect Cut = Optimal light return

More than any other factor, the cut is decisive for the beauty of a diamond.

The aspects of the cut that contribute to beauty and optimal light return are proportions, polishing and symmetry.

The parameters for evaluating these factors are:

  • excellent
  • very good
  • good
  • faint

Salvadori diamonds are all excellent or very good.
