Salvadori’s social commitment: a project to support Kenya

29 January 2021

In addition to the project in support of Italy for the Covid emergency, we have chosen to embrace another project in collaboration with Actionaid. This time moving to Kenya. The project aims to improve food and nutrition security for 10 pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Isiolo County, comprised mainly of women and other vulnerable groups. It seeks to strengthen sustainable livelihoods by improving the resilience to climate and market shocks in the Arid and Semi-Arid Areas (ASAL) of Northern Kenya.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of Salvadori jewellery has always been used to support humanitarian projects in collaboration with Actionaid, an international non-governmental organisation that fights alongside the world’s poorest and most marginalised communities.

The project will invest in the diversification of livelihoods, involving communities that have already begun the transition to agro-pastoralism.

Under the second component, the sustainability of beneficiaries’ traditional livelihoods (particularly livestock farming) will be increased through the introduction of an integrated natural resource management model.

The third component will aim at removing the political/institutional obstacles to the development of rural communities. It will also seek to promote a constructive dialogue between beneficiaries and their associations on the one hand, and between local authority representatives at a county level and, to a lesser extent, national level on the other hand.

The integrated action of these three components will make it possible to improve food and nutrition security for 10 pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Isiolo County, comprised mainly of women and other vulnerable groups. Sustainable livelihoods will be strengthened by improving the resilience to climate and market shocks in the Arid and Semi-Arid Areas of Northern Kenya.

The project will allow groups who find themselves in conditions of extreme poverty and marginalised due to the socioeconomic and climatic conditions of the intervention area to improve their situation.

Buying a Salvadori jewellery piece is also a gift of love: part of the proceeds goes to supporting humanitarian projects in collaboration with Actionaid to give hope and a smile to those in need.
