The world of jewelry is surrounded by curiosities and anecdotes that are lightly remembered.
Here are the 5 curiosities we have selected for you.

1 – The Cullinan diamond, with a weight of over 3,000 carats (equal to about 621 grams) is the largest rough diamond found. It was cut into multiple fragments in order to give birth to 105 different stones, most of which were set in the imperial state crown of the United Kingdom.

2 – Platinum is a much rarer and therefore more precious metal than gold. It takes more time to work it and more skills and experience to shape it. The production quotas of platinum are in fact 15 times lower than those of gold!

3 – The tradition of the engagement ring dates back to 1477 when Maximilian of Austria had Mary of Burgundy made a ring as a promise of marriage as a token of love.

4 – In ancient China, gold was not preferred but silver. They also made jewels with precious gems and blue kingfisher feathers.

5 – The term “Cocktail Ring” was born in the 1920s, during the period of Prohibition in the United States. In those years the parties were secretly organized and the ladies who wanted to indulge in forbidden tastings and entertainment often wore a luxurious ring on the finger, with the purpose to draw attention to the jewel and to distract men from the illegal alcoholic substances they were drinking.
