Salvadori Atelier: a story of family and love for fine craftsmanship

16 May 2018

Once upon a time…

In the year 1857, in Venice, a magical city full of mystery that escapes from reality and hides among its canals, its countless Istrian-stone bridges and ancient palazzos, silent testimonies of centuries-old history. In this climate of oriental scents and faraway spices, in a place of trade and forest people, and within the prestigious shops of San Marco was born the first Salvadori store.

At the time, it only sold watches: small table top clocks and travel clocks, pendulum clocks and wall clocks. These precious time-keepers already included some of the most famous brands that would later become part of Salvadori.

The President of the Company was Gabriele Pendini, whose passion and dedication for precious stones allowed Salvadori to become a tangible expression of high-class, refined jewellery.

His expertise and originality derived from the fact that he personally travelled to the countries of origin to purchase the precious stones: Colombia for emeralds, more precisely in Muzo, Chivor and Cosquez, where the most important mines in the world are found, and Thailand for sapphires and rubies of the highest quality.

As a member of the world’s largest diamond exchanges, Gabriele Pendini often travelled with his wife and daughters to select each individual diamond.

Diamonds of all shapes and sizes, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, Australian, Tahitian or Japanese pearls, and coral were the heart and soul of the Salvadori Jewellery. In the past, there was a preference for yellow, gold, geometric shapes, animal figures and coloured stones. The history of Salvadori jewellery passed through the breezy 70s, the innovative 80s and 90s, reflecting the taste of an era, of a historical period, while retaining their elegance and use.

Today, the entire production of Salvadori Jewellery is managed by the designer, Marzia Pendini who, since 2000, has been enriching the range with new and original Collections, such as the Metamorfosi Collection, whose jewellery pieces can be transformed to allow the wearer to have more than several pieces in one. Over time, yellow gold was joined by white gold of the highest quality in palladium alloy, and by pink gold, but most of the production is now made of platinum, the only material worthy of accommodating pure stones of such importance.

Salvadori has become more and more specialised in diamonds, and is now a Diamond Atelier where the jewellery pieces are designed and handcrafted to perfectly “adorn” today’s woman. A dynamic, independent and passionate woman.

The values of the company have been passed down from generation to generation, and today the picture is completed by Gabriele’s daughters, Marzia and Monica. On the one hand, the creativity of the artistic director Marzia Pendini, and on the other, the skill and professionalism of the Sales Manager Monica Pendini, who graduated in oriental languages and oriental civilisations. Her studies and compassion have allowed breaking down distances and making customers living on the other side of the world feel at home, cultivating relationships and ties with Salvadori’s most important asset: its customers.
